Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park

So we've stayed at this beautiful state park twice now so I thought it was about time that I wrote something about it 😊.  It's located in Niceville Florida & even though it is super close to a main road & near a populated area we felt like we were in a more remote place (except we did hear some road noise).

So why do we like it: it's right on Rocky Bayou, the trailing arm of Choctowhatchee Bay. We are water people (ocean, rivers, lakes) & this meets that criteria plus it has 3 hiking trails. We love walking & these trails have some really interesting deer lichen spread throughout the pine forest.

The campsites here are fairly private & most are shady & our only issue was that the two sites we stayed at, 31 & 34, had a bit of an incline which made leveling our van a bit of a challenge. Folks with travel trailers probably wouldn't have an issue & could easily level with their tongue jack. Another reason we like staying here may seem silly but they have washers, dryers & best of all....a dishwashing station.

Having all that space to wash dishes is a special treat 😊.

On our very first stay here we experienced an almost surreal sky that was reflected back in the water. It had been raining & was foggy & misty when the sun peeked out for a few seconds & the sky & water became one. It was gorgeous & our picture truly doesn't capture the beauty of the moment.

On our second visit, we were welcomed by an unexpected visitor. This beautiful hawk was just relaxing on a fence post at our campsite. We didn't even notice her at first 😊 and she stayed at our site for about 10 minutes when she flew off & attempted to catch a squirrel for dinner. Wow, what specials memories at a special place.
