Goodbye Summer

So where on Earth has the summer gone? Maybe it went by so quickly because we are now older or maybe because we were staying in one of our most favorite areas.

As you may have gathered from this blog, we are "water people" and I love to swim and Jim loves to fish so the upstate of South Carolina is a beautiful location to do both.

For the past 3 months we have been just a stone's throw away from my happy place: Lake Jocassee.  Being able to go swimming nearly everyday has been a dream come true and forming new friendships with folks in the area and rekindling relationships with our South Carolina friends has been icing on the cake. We even had an out of town guest when my bestie from up North came for a visit.

Living a nomadic life isn't all peaches and cream though and we had a few trying moments when I developed some medical issues but thankfully I found a wonderful physician in the area who uses a more functional or integrative medicine approach. I am so thankful for her and thankful these issues should not prevent us from continuing this wonderful nomadic lifestyle. 👍

So we were also impacted from hurricane/tropical storm Helene but before I say another word, ours was merely an inconvenience compared to the devastation that others experienced. We lost power for 7 days and since we are on a well, we had to fetch buckets of water from a nearby pond to flush the toilet and we had to use bottled water for drinking but this was absolutely a cakewalk compared to those not far from us in Western North Carolina and in Eastern Tennessee.  Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with them as they still are in the midst of recovery from that horrific storm. 😥

During our power outage we relied on some things that were second nature to us after living in the van for 5 years. We used a spray bottle full of vinegar and water to wash our dishes with a minimal amount of water. Our rental has a propane stove so we were all set in terms of cooking and Jim managed to continue creating wonderful meals.

The one thing we truly missed about our van was the propane fridge but we are thankful that we did have the use of a generator that we used for several hours each day to keep the contents of our fridge cold.

So in just 2 and 1/2 short weeks we will be moving on and leaving the lake that I love so much and heading to Tennessee.  Goodbye Lake Jocassee. We will miss you and your crystal clear waters.
