So much news

Okay, okay, I admit it, I am a bad blogger. I haven't posted on this blog forever 😥.

I promise that I'm going to do better this year. I primarily post on the Polar steps app and have neglected my blog spot.

So where do I start?  Well, we had a wonderful summer in the upstate of South Carolina and on Lake Hartwell in Georgia.

And you will never believe it but on the last day before we had to leave SC to head south for a family commitment, our Maverick arrived!! We picked her up on November 10th which was exactly 385 days from when we placed our initial order. 😲 For the record, our salesperson was super nice and he had to be the tallest human being that I ever met in person: 6 feet 11 inches. 😲

So you better sit down for this one. We kept our Maverick for a little over 2 months when we both decided that we were not "new car" people.  We both were so concerned that we were going to scratch it and we also had concerns over some issues that the new Mavericks had and Jim did not like the fact that all the new technology made these vehicles difficult to work on for the average do-it-yourselfer. So we requested a quote from Carvana and were floored when they offered us much more than what we paid for it and on that same day that we sold our truck to Carvana, we bought a 2006 Honda Element from an independent dealer in the same town that our son lives in.  We absolutely love the Element and cannot believe it's versatility. We have removed the back seats and it's like a combination of a truck, van and car.  We can also say that it was almost for free because we used the money we made from Carvana to make the purchase.

We will be responsible for capital gains tax but because our income is quite low anyhow, it really won't make much of a difference come income tax time next year.

So what about the travel trailer that we had at our son's home?  Well, we stayed in it from the end of November until about a week ago when we sold it to a nice couple who live in Navarre.   We had done many upgrades to it and it was kind of sad to see it go but it just didn't fit into our nomadic lifestyle.  Here is a link to a video that I made prior to the sale.

So what are our plans for 2023? We are going to primarily stay in the Southeast again but spend a good bit of time in Tennessee this year as well as in North Carolina.  We have big plans for 2024 when we hope to perhaps purchase a bit newer rig and then travel out west again and perhaps join a convoy of friends to Alaska. 😲😲.

Anyhow, this is your "missing in action" blogger signing off and including some pictures from this past summer.  Safe travels to all.
